The Uniqueness of French Cuisine

Jacquelyn D. Kirkland’s love for cooking began in her childhood. Every weekend, she helped prepare the family dinner which gave her opportunities to learn different recipes. As Jacquelyn D. Kirkland matured, so did her love for cooking. She focuses on cooking French cuisine.

French cuisine is arguably one of the best and most iconic in the world. One can find a trace of French cuisine from restaurants all over the world. In addition to freshness and unequaled flavor, there are many other reasons why French cuisine is unique.

1. Markets in France are a daily occurrence. They are an inseparable part of the French culture ad tradition, whether in urban or rural areas. The availability of markets even in the tiniest villages in France makes local market products diverse and fresh.

2. Much of French cuisine favors meat over vegetables. However, it is surprising that the cases of obesity and the rate of mortality because of dietary reasons are relatively low among the French compared with other European nations. Scientists call this phenomenon as the French Paradox. The British Journal of Nutrition has published a study that said that the French people are consuming saturated animal fat which is way healthier compared with processed trans fat. The French are also considered as masters of portion control. They are “small eaters,” therefore they consume fewer calories.

3. French people have unique meal traditions. First, they dedicate at least two hours for lunch. As the most important meal of the day, a midday meal normally consists of four courses. Second, for the French, who they eat their meal with is as important as the meal itself. Eating is always done with loved ones around because their meal experience is always linked with connecting. Third, the French gastronomical experience is incomplete without wine.
